It can be hard to find the time to do all the things that need to be done much less the things that you want to do. Online community college courses are one way that education is adapting to this new culture. Now, instead of sitting in a class for three hours at night after you have worked or watched the kids all day, you can sit in the comfort of your own home and earn a degree. These concentrated courses leave out the driving to campus and the dallying during class time. They are pure lecture and cost about the same as an on campus class. Online degrees are offered for everything from accounting to paralegal to teaching. With minimal outside work, these programs are designed to help you get an education right in your own home.
There are many different types of teaching styles for these online community college courses. Some instructors record their lectures and then post them on a website. Students can log into this site and listen to the lecture at their convenience while washing dishes, folding laundry or pretty much anything they want. Other instructors may type out their lectures or use PowerPoint-type presentations that can be printed and read at the student’s leisure.
Online community college courses don’t get you out of homework though. Instructors most often have multiple small assignments or a couple larger papers that can be emailed or submitted to an online “dropbox” by a certain date and time.
These online community college courses often still require testing however. Instructors may have “timed” multiple choice or short answer tests that are only available for a specific amount of time. This allows the student to take the test online and often have the materials in front of them as they take the test. Truly online classes are the wave of the future.
